Obituary of Megan M. Nutbeem
Please share a memory of Megan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
NUTBEEM (nee MOORES), Megan Marguerite -
passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the Carbonear General Hospital at the age of 84 after a lengthy battle that never conquered her spirit or zest for life. Predeceased by her parents, Silas Wilmot Moores and Dorothy Duff Moores; her son, Christopher; her husband, Bob; and her brother, The Hon. Frank D. Moores. Loving mother of Robin Hughes (Bill), Devon Nutbeem (Brian) and Michael Nutbeem (Lynda) and proud grandmother of Kent Hughes, Melodie Hughes (Chris), Cydney Nutbeem, Cole Nutbeem and the Granddogs at Homeport Perm. Reg'd in Fredericton, NB.
Born in Carbonear, Newfoundland, on November 7, 1927, Megan graduated from Havergal College in Toronto and Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. After Queen's, she moved back to her beloved Newfoundland and began her life-long association with the Newfoundland dog. A World renowned and Internationally acclaimed Dog Judge as well as a founding member of the Conception Bay Kennel Club, Newfoundland Dog Club of Canada, life member of the Canadian Kennel Club, Newfoundland Club of America and an honorary member of the Newfoundland Dog Club of New Zealand.
Megan became a living legend in the Newfoundland dog world. Over the years, she maintained close ties to Queen's University and avidly supported the Queen's Bands. At home, Megan was an equally avid supporter of the Sea Cadets, particularly in Harbour Grace and never missed a parade, even the same parade, many times!
To everyone who knew her, and whatever their walk in life, she was a lady who will always be remembered for her vibrant wit, warmth, infectious smile, enthusiasm and vitality. She was a "larger than life" personality who lit up the room when she entered and held her audience entranced especially with her extraordinarily gifted storytelling.
Flowers are welcome and memorial donations may be offered in memory of Megan Nutbeem to the Carbonear Hospital or the Newfoundland Dog Club of Canada.
The family will receive friends at home at Harbour Beem, on Sunday, March 4th from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Monday, March 5th from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. through cocktail hour to celebrate and share memories of the life of a True Newfoundlander.
