Dearest Linda, and Judy and family, no words can say how sad we are to lose your Dad. He was for us a very special person. His warmth, his laughter, his singing and playing the accordion, his great stories, and of course his wonderful sense of humour. He always had that twinkle in his eye and was such fun to be with. Most of all, your Dad and Mum were family to us. We are truly grateful for the good times spent together with your family- our Newfoundland family. We’re very sorry not to be there with you this week, but we feel we are in spirit with him, being down here on the Labrador. We are thinking of you at this time of reflection on all the happy times together. Who could ever forget our first family Christmas in Carbonear, and his swish…. With our love, always, Bob and Sheila

Judy and Linda I was deeply saddened when I heard your father had passed away. Such a well-loved, gentle and kind man and a truly good friend of my father, Warrick Young. I'll always remember a beautiful sunny evening talking a walk with your dad on the land in the Valley Road - oh how he loved that land! He so enjoyed talking about every corner and giving little details about certain areas. I never pass that way without thinking of him. Although I knew your dad had been ill for some time I still looked for his white hair in church every Sunday hoping for a little chat after the service was over - he'd always have something to say to make me laugh, such was his nature. I know how much you will miss him but take comfort in knowing that your mom and dad are together again. May God bless you and your family at this time and always. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Jeanette Pike, Carbonear

It is very difficulet to lose someone who has bought specila meaning to your lives.Fathers & Grandfathers seem to teach us love and to take a place in this world. I remember well the good times that we had at Stan's & rita's when we were in Carbonera for a clinic or if we just came out for a weekend, it was always with a warm welcoming that we were greated and also good food/ music and of course a wee drop of grog! With time to heal you will all remember his sweet memories and his many words of wisdom. Rest assurd that Stan & Rita are together once more (are there trailers and accordians in heaven?) Recently, my sisters Cathy, Sandra and I flew to Newfoundland from Ontario for my uncle's funeral (Frank Ryan). We met this lovely little lady, Linda Thoms who handed us, three strangers, the keys to her house and told us to make ourselves at home. Although we never had the opportunity to meet Stanley Thoms, we know what kind of person he must have been to have raised such a lovely daughter, in Linda, and to have been such a good friend with my uncle Frank. Thank you Linda for your kind hospitality in our time of grief, and our hearts go out to you in your time of grief. From your Ontario Lodgers...Cindy Rudavsky, Cathy Tohivsky, and Sandra Cordon.
