I was so sorry to hear that Aunt Ruby has passed away. Here are a few thoughts and memories. I will always remember Ruby for her sense of humour and her interest in all of the many nieces and nephews and, in fact, all of the people on Park Lane. She expressed an interest in the lives of all of her neighbours and her concern was appreciated by all. I was always amazed by her unique ability to remember details, such as every relatives’ and friends’ birthday, anniversary, etc. – and there were many. All of the Laing sisters were called “Aunt”, except her. All the nieces and nephews called her “Ruby” because she seemed more like a friend than an aunt. Ruby took great care of her mother, Hannah, in her later years and she made it possible for her mother to stay in her home until she passed away. I have fond memories of Ruby and will occasionally have a private laugh at her quick wit. Harold and Isabelle, many thanks to you both for helping her during her last years so that she could stay in her home and in familiar surroundings on Park Lane where she spent her 78 years. I was truly sorry to hear of Ruby's passing. As someone who grew up in Park Lane, I will never forget her fun-loving ways, her ability to laugh at the world and herself, and her love for her precious dogs. She was one in a long line of unforgettable characters who flourished during my years growing up on the South Side of Carbonear. I will never forget Ruby. My deepest sympathies.
