As a young boy and well into my teens i would accompany my Nan to Bingo, for a job that would be described as an "Errand Boy" or "Gopher". In short amongst many other things, between the gaps in number calling i would be the one who run for Pepsi's and Nevada Tickets (also known as Pull tabs). In the days before the paper cards and "Bingo Dabbers" the cards used where hard cardboard square cards that were the approximate dimension of today's IPAD and had the word B I N G O across the top and then had red or black sliding windows that would hide the numbers when they were called. I remember that Nan would play anywhere from 20-25 cards on any given night, and then would also have time to rip open 6-8 nevada tickets between numbers as well ! No Normal feet for a novice but for Nan , not a problem !! :) I will never forget the nights spent travelling on the bingo bus with Nan and her bingo buddies (Winnie Rose, Minnie Slade, Hattie Milley, Bridge Fahey, Mrs .Gibson and the man that lived by the pond in Salmon Cove who reaked of Cigarette smoke... :) Love you Nan, Your Grandson Derek

So sorry to hear about the passing of your mother, grandmother, friend. A great person once said, "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." Alice was blessed with both. Remember the memories, and the smiles and laughter will get you through this difficult time. Brian and Regina Power, Gander

Those we love must someday pass beyond our present sight...
Must leave us and the world we know without their radiant light.
But we know that like a candle their lovely light will surely shine to brighten up another place more perfect... more divine. And in the realm of Heaven where they shine so warm and bright. Our loved ones live forevermore in God's eternal light.

To say the least, Alice, Mom and I had what could only be described as an adventure when we decided to go swimming in Gull Island Pond. Thought we were alone but it seems it's a busy spot. We had a great laugh after we got over the fright when we heard some people coming. Obviously no PHOTOS. She won't need anymore blueberries, no more rides to the store, as she is in a better place. A hug from Andrea. Dianne, Wayne & Andrea & Marie

To my cousins and their families: Your grief is my grief too. I am not able to put into words the hurt that is in my heart to have lost my aunt. It helps to know that she is not hurting anymore. You are blessed to have had her for so long. In John 14:2 Jesus comforted his disciples when he told them he was going away to prepare a place for them and that he would come back for them. I am thinking she must have such a wonderful home up there, it took Him 93 yrs to prepare it for her. One day we will be with her again and her love will live forever in you all. God Bless.

To the Layman family My sincere condolences on the loss of your mother and grandmother. Alice was a truly unique lady, always smiling and pleasant no matter what life threw at her. I remember visiting her years ago and most recently seeing her in Carbonear a few times. Hold on to your good memories and they will get you through this difficult time. Remember: You will always need your Mom no matter what age you are. Your Mom has made you laugh.. made you proud...made you cry...hugged you tight..seen you fall... cheered you up...kept you going strong...and driven you crazy at times! But, your Mom is a promise from God that you would have a friend forever! My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
