Michael and all the Hoyles family my deepest condolences on the passing of your mom Selma. My attachment to your family goes back a long while. Both my father and your grandfather Joe came from Pound Cove. They both ended up working for the Earle Freighting Service. Joe as foreman at Battle Harbour and dad on the boats delivering freight and fish to and from the Labrador. It was Slipper Rol that moved them bag and baggage from Englee to Carbonear on the schooner Lila B. Boutiller all those years ago. Selma was only a small girl at the time but the memory of it must have really impacted her because for years and years she would tell me of that time with her beaming smile and tell me how handsome my dad was and how I looked so much like him at that time. Selma was a genuine sweetheart. A natural people person. A very close family. If you ever visited Joe and Rose’s at Christmas back in the day you would never forget it. Must have been a well built house to withstand the dancing when the music started with Rose on the accordion! Cherish all your wonderful memories and may she be reunited with all the crowd gone before her. Rest In Peace old friend.

To Selma's family and friends I was very sadden to learn of Selma's passing. I got to know Selma when I worked with her at the plant from 1997 up until it closed.
