Obituary of Walter Edward Verge

Please share a memory of Walter Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, the family of Walter Edward Verge of Harbour Grace announce his peaceful passing at the Pte. Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavillion in Carbonear on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the age of 77, with his family by his side. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Hazel, and his young sister Rachel. Leaving to mourn, sadly missed and ever remembered by his devoted wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Betty), who never left his side; his sons: Shawn (Rosie), Paul (Christina) and Curtis (Courtney); daughters Trudy (Corey Hunt) and Linda Oakley; grandchildren Tristan (and his mother Carolyn), Taylor, Emily, Matthew, Alyssa, Khloee and Logan, all of whom Walter loved dearly. Also leaving to mourn his brothers Gord (Mary), Wayne (Leslie), Don (Elizabeth) and Harold (Shirley); his sisters Evelyn Swain (John, deceased) and Susan Clarke (Murray); also a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Throughout his life, Walter was the epitome of strength, courage and perseverance. The eldest in the family, when his father died at a young age, Walter worked hard to support his mother and siblings. A role model for his own family, he taught his children, nieces and nephews the value of a dollar and the value of education and hard work. Walter was a jack of all trades and there was no task he couldn’t accomplish. He served a short time in the army, worked in Churchill Falls and in the mines in Sudbury. He was affectionately known as a “master blaster.” He was a heavy equipment operator, cabinet maker, a security guard at the Marystown Shipyard and was a talented and well-known journeyman carpenter, who left his mark throughout Conception Bay, having constructed many homes and buildings in the region. A respected and admired man in the community, Walter had an incredible thirst for knowledge. He was a history and geography buff, loved to paint and take his daily walks in the Pipetrack. Always a sharp-dressed man who loved donning his Fedora hats, he enjoyed a good western movie, reciting poetry and Aesop Fables, and relished listening and singing along to the old tunes. Walter was also a devoted Jehovah’s Witness and elder, whose faith and prayer guided him throughout many years of his life. The family wishes to thank the many caring brothers and sisters in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, who were there for guidance and support. A special thanks to the nurses and homecare workers, who helped in recent years, as well as all those who reached out to the family to offer support. Visitation at Noel’s Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace on Thursday, May 5 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The virtual service will be held Friday, May 6 at a time to be determined. Information can be obtained from the family at the funeral home during Thursday's visitation. “If a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service until my relief comes. You will call and I will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands.” — Job 14: 14, 15
