Obituary of Barbara Sullivan
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The family announces with profound sorrow, the passing of Barbara Ann Sullivan (nee Oates) of Carbonear, on February 18, 2022.
Predeceased by her parents Andrew and Blanche Oates, infant daughter and infant son, sisters-in-law Gwen Oates and Patricia Connors, parents-in-law Wilfred and Gertrude Sullivan, and lifelong best friend, Linda Thoms.
Devoted wife of over 50 years to Tom; cherished and adored mother of Andrea, Shane, Heather (Chris); beloved grandmom of Harper, Brock and Kolton, loyal sister to Carl and special sister-in-law to Bruce (Annemarie), Sheila, Helen, Dolores (Fred), Jean, Wilf, and Niki (John).
She was a graduate of the Salvation Army Grace Hospital School of Nursing and worked at the Red Cross. She later worked alongside her husband for over 20 years at his private family medical practice in Heart’s Content.
As a mother, she demonstrated what it is to live in gratitude, to be thankful for the little things and to persevere, regardless of the challenge. Her strength and spirit were truly inspiring. She took great pride and joy in the accomplishments of her loved ones. Becoming a grandmother to her “sweetest little girl in the whole wide world” Harper was her most treasured role. Our mother provided her family with countless cherished memories and we have been blessed beyond measure by her love.
We would like to thank Carl and Helen for their unwavering support and kindness during our most difficult days.
A private funeral service and interment at St. James Anglican Church, Carbonear will take place on Thursday, February 24th.
Flowers are graciously accepted. Barbara loved children and as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in her memory to the Janeway Children’s Hospital, 300 Prince Philip Drive, St. John’s, NL A1B 3V6 or online at janewayfoundation.nf.ca.
