Obituary of Maxwell "Mac" Martin

Please share a memory of Maxwell "Mac" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with broken hearts that the family of Mac Martin announce his peaceful passing at the Health Science Centre on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the age of 79 years, just one day shy of his 80th birthday.

Predeceased by his parents: Absalom and Rosena Martin; and infant daughter: Stacy.

Mac was born in Harbour Grace on May 18th, 1945.

Mac was a kind and loving person, a compassionate man who loved his family fiercely.

He began his career as an apprentice refinisher with A.L Collis and Sons which eventually led him to work as a piano and furniture refinisher, and later an entrepreneur and business owner of WoodArt Ltd.

In 1972, Mac married Patricia O’Donnell of Blackpool, England. They lived in Harbour Grace together where they raised two daughters, Kerry and Melissa.

Mac played hockey with the Conception Bay Cee Bee’s. He was widely known and respected for his contributions as a volunteer and coach in Conception Bay North in hockey, soccer, softball and rowing.

He was most at home in the woods. It was his sanctuary, a place where he found peace and purpose. Whether trouting on the Terra Nova River, or hunting moose in the crisp morning air, he lived for moments that were surrounded by nature. He loved the outdoors and the simple joys in life.

His greatest joy was found in his role as a grandfather. He took great pride in their accomplishments and was most happy being their biggest fan at the field, pitch or rink.

He leaves to mourn, his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia; daughters: Kerry Martin (Jason Murphy) and Melissa (Brian) Colbourne; granddaughters: Anna (her father, Brad), Ava, and Ally; grandson: Mac; cherished UK family; niece: Sally O'Donnell (Dan Higham); nephew: Andrew O'Donnell; great-nephews: Sam and Tom; great-niece: Hollie; special cousin: Judy Rogers; and a large circle of family and friends. He will also be forever missed by his furry friends: Molly, Lola, and Gus.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Alison Hall, Dr. Rory McKercher, Dr. Alex Sapp as well as RN’s Nicole O’Driscoll and Cathy Murphy of the C.C.U for their exceptional compassion and care during his final hours.

Visitation at Noel's Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace on Monday, May 19 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Funeral service to take place on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's Anglican Church, Harbour Grace.

Cremation to follow and interment at a later date.

At the family’s request, flowers are welcomed or donations in his memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 15 or St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery Fund.

"As he cast his line in this life, may he now fish in the waters of eternity."
