Sandra and Kathy I was deeply saddened to hear the news about the sudden death of Walter. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. I feel blessed to have gotten to know him so well, and a lot of my Newfoundland and Labrador family vicariously through him. As you know, it was not that long ago that my own mother passed away, so I have some idea of what you and your family are going through. No comfort is quite enough to replace the loss. Walter had a contagious sense of humor, and a generous nature. I recall one winter a few years ago when he was over to have supper at my moms home and he showed up without a coat. My mom and Ron gave him a coat. He owned the coat for about 2 hours. On his way home that very same night he saw a man (very down on his luck) shivering in the streets with no coat. He took his brand new coat off and gave it to that man. He was always quick to see humor in situations and people that would make me throw my arms up, and he would always be able to help me laugh at myself. I hope that the memories you built with Walt will help you through this difficult time. Even though you and I are thousands of miles apart right now, please know that I

We wish to send our deepest sympathy and our thoughts and prayers to all who feel the loss of Walt. It was many years ago since I seen Walt but I will always have fond memories of him when I was a little girl, when he would come see my dad (Harrison) I know Dad though of him as a brother and not as a nephew and we wish we could be there to mourn with everyone, Please know you all are in our thoughts and prayers and we wish we could be there in this time of loss.

I was so shocked to hear of Walter's death. I am the secretary at a church where he volunteered. Such a nice man and so hardworking. Walter was a great person. I am so sorry for your sudden loss. We here at the church were blessed to know him.

How sad you must feel to lose your brother. My prayers are with your family. Walter came into my life at Lincoln Road United Church through a community participation program. He was bright, energetic and very stubborn, but always made me laugh. He went on to employment at the Downtown Windsor Business Association and did a wonderful job. He still made time to help others whether at the Church or for friends, myself included. From him I learned much about life and people. He was a consciousness worker when at the Church and for the BIA. I looked forward to his visits and calls and tried to help him anyway I could as did the people at the Church. We all knew no matter how hard the times, Walter was a survivor. Again, I am so sorry for your loss and hope there is some comfort knowing he earned the respect and love of many at the Church, myself and he co-workers.
